The movie follows the story of Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence), a skilled hunter from District 12 who volunteers to participate in the Games in place of her younger sister. Alongside fellow tribute Peeta Mellark, Katniss must use her wits, skill, and cunning to survive the arena and defy the Capitol's oppression.

In a post-apocalyptic future, the country of Panem is ruled by the tyrannical Capitol. As punishment for a past rebellion, the Capitol forces 12 districts to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal annual event where 24 children, 12 boys and 12 girls, between the ages of 12 and 18, must fight to the death in a televised event.
